Shorebirds are one of the most interesting and diverse groups of birds. In New England, we have the opportunity to observe not only species that nest in our area (e.g., Killdeer, Piping Plover), but also shorebirds (Whimbrel, White-rumped Sandpiper) that pass through our area on their long spring and fall migrations.

During this richly illustrated presentation, Bill will show you his photographs of 37 species of shorebirds and discuss each species’ feeding ecology, habit preferences, and migration strategy. Bill will also discuss when it expect each species to arrive or pass through our area (phenology) and discuss the important of tides along coastal regions.

About Bill:

Bill Gette, Founding Director of Mass Audubon’s Joppa Flats Education Center in Newburyport, has over 30 years of experience leading groups to exciting local, domestic, and international destinations. He has visited all seven continents, led groups on over 50 international travel programs, and conducted hundreds of field trips locally and throughout the United States.
