VIRTUAL: Native American Archaeology in New England
Native American archeology sites are often hidden for a myriad of reasons. Through this public program, people realize that we have more than Native American place names. This program brings our local landscape alive by looking at why people have been attracted to the local rivers for over 7,000 years. Through the artifacts and excavations of local archaeological sites, people can look beyond the glare of the modern to the contours of the land and understand more about the indigenous people and why they were attracted to this area. This program uses google slides and hands-on artifacts to bring archaeology alive.
About the speaker: Kimberley Connors is a local archaeologist specializing in public education. She holds a MA from Harvard University and has excavated numerous sites in New England and the Middle East. Her research on the hidden landscape includes local sites along Nashoba Brook and the Assabet River. Her past Hidden History Hikes have been sponsored by Freedom's Way, Acton Boxborough Cultural Council, Friends of Pine Halk, and Iron Work Farm of Acton. Her talks have been sponsored by the Boston Public Library, and numerous of the libraries and local non-profits. Kimberley is the founder of Archaeology Outreach, which brings archaeological and cultural programs to thousands of school students across New England.
