From stone age to Cape Ann granite, learn about the history of granite and the many traits passed down through the masons of Cape Ann.  Learn from David Helifant of Breaking Stones Masonry how he procured and carved our new granite sign.  David’s exceptional craftsmanship has resulted in something timeless, a piece that reflects the rich heritage of Rockport while symbolizing the strength and pride of our community.

About David: David's love for masonry started at the age of 11 after moving to Rockport, MA. His first memory is of building a small granite retaining wall in his backyard. He initially when to college for personal training, but during his time at Bridgewater State University he had started laboring for a local masonry company.  Working in his physical fitness field only briefly, David quickly realized masonry was his calling. David decided to start his own business, and Breaking Stones Masonry was born. Breaking Stones Masonry offers creative, artistic, and balanced solutions for all masonry projects. Every job is unique in its own way and David always looks forward to creating something special.

David was fortunate enough to spend a decade of winters in Thailand training and competing in Muay Thai kickboxing, which has had a huge impact on how he lives his daily life. Based on Buddhist principles and philosophies on living a life driven by respect, the Thai culture will influence one into a more satisfying life with minimal stress. David has learned that by reflecting the positivity of every situation one can achieve a happy and fulfilling life.  In his free time David enjoys surfing, gardening, micro farming, Muay Thai, boxing, travel, taco Tuesday, doggies, cats, goats, chickens, and enjoying quality time with his wife, Meghan.
