Specifically, she studies the effects of cannabis use on addiction and other health outcomes. Her goal is to conduct research that can inform decision-making among the public, patients, and clinicians regarding evidence-based decisions to use or not use cannabis for recreational or medical purposes.
Dr. Gilman has authored a series of scientific publications on the acute and long-term effects of alcohol and cannabis consumption on the structure and function of the brain, specifically in young adults. She has also co-authored book chapters on topics such the pharmacological effects of alcohol, and the connection between cannabis use and mental health outcomes. Her work has been featured in media outlets throughout the world, including Reuters, NPR's Science Friday, and the BBC.
