Do you have a poem you would like to submit to the Rockport Paperless Poetry Contest? Join us on Saturday, March 23rd, from 12:00pm-2:00pm, to workshop your poem! Elementary school contestants are encouraged to workshop their poems from 12:00pm-1:00pm, while middle school and high school contestants are encouraged to to workshop their poems from 1:00pm-2:00pm!

Rockport Poetry is pleased to announce the “PAPERLESS POETRY CONTEST” open to all Rockport students. Any students of Rockport Public Schools, including those from other communities who attend through the School Choice option, or students who live in Rockport but attend public or private schools in other communities, are invited to submit their poetry. The contest is part of the Rockport Poetry Festival to be held in Rockport on Sunday, April 28, 2019 to celebrate National Poetry Month.

The contest opens on March 1, 2019 and the final deadline for submissions is Midnight on Sunday, March 31, 2019. All submissions are to be submitted by email to RockportPoetry@gmail.com with PAPERLESS POETRY CONTEST in the subject line. There is no entry fee. Up to three submissions will be allowed from each student but only one poem from any student will be awarded a prize or honorable mention. Any style and length is acceptable, but preference will be given to poems with less than forty lines.

There will be four school divisions: Primary, Elementary, Middle, and High School. The Primary Division is non-competitive, and each participant will receive a certificate. First, Second, and Third Prizes, as well as up to three Honorable Mentions will be awarded in each of the other Divisions. Students will be awarded laurel wreath crowns, medals and certificates at a ceremony to be held at Rockport Public Library. Awards will be presented by poet laureates including the current Poet Laureate of Rockport. Winners will be encouraged to read their poem at the ceremony, if they wish. With parental permission the young poets will have their work published in an anthology of Festival Poems.
