RCL notes from 10/19/23 meeting

1. RCL decided to have a Housing Matters Forum to clarify all the various aspects of Housing Matters actions taking place in Rockport. Housing has an impact on future quality of life, providing affordable housing, land use, water and sewer infrastructure, our taxes, our schools, and all our neighborhoods in Rockport.

We need members of the RCL to form a Housing Matters Group that will organize a series of Housing Matters Public Forums to present the significant persons leading the various Town Committees, Boards, Commissions, and Trust public and private, who can answer these questions.

The RCL has members who will assist the Group.

We should include the action steps here: Who will be sending out the request to the RCL membership for volunteers to join the group (committee?) to work on the outlines of a plan for the forum.

We should include a description of the task for the volunteers: The volunteers would come up with who would be the invited speakers representing each of the groups with plans (or potential plans) for meeting the housing needs in Rockport. The plan for the forum should also include who would make contact with potential speakers, how much time we might need before we can send out a notice of the forum, where are some possible places we might plan to have it, etc.]

2. RCL decided to reach out to all groups in Town to bring them under the RCL to grow the membership and give all Town Groups a more significant voice in Town decisions that impact all citizens in Rockport.

We request anyone interested to contact Bill Tobin, who will assist with the group formation and information gathering about the existing Rockport groups.

We suggested a social gathering at the Community House.

[Note: We identified a few of the community organizations that represent the interests of some of the areas or neighborhoods in the town. We should find out just how many such organizations actually exist; how many are formal organizations: how many are informal, without a defined area or membership. We should develop a list of the organizations and the names and contact information of the leadership. It is possible that we can get that information from one of the formal organizations; Is it possible that Rotary Club or the Garden Club might have some information like that. We should gather that information and decide on how we will communicate with the community groups to invite their participation in helping the RCL to build better communication among the various parts of town to be sure that the interests of all the town are represented in helping decision making in town.]
