Exploring Racism and White Privilege: A Group Discussion Series

Monday, November 47:00—8:30 PMBrenner RoomRockport Public Library17 School Street, Rockport, MA, 01966

What will we be doing?

We are organizing an in-depth discussion series in Rockport exploring racism and white privilege using Robin DiAngelo’s book, White Fragility, as our guide. We are planning 6-8 facilitated group discussions over the course of several months with 10-15 persons in each group. White Fragility explores the reactions that white people have when their personal assumptions about race are challenged. This book allows us to understand that racism is a practice that is not restricted to ‘bad people.’ Instead, it discusses the defensive moves that white people make when they are racially challenged. DiAngelo explores white fragility, how it develops, how it gets triggered, how it protects racial inequality and how we can engage people better.
