CANCELLED DUE TO LACK OF SIGN-UPS

Baya Mahieddine was an Algerian artist that influenced Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse and Andre Breton. At the age of 16 she had her first exhibition in Paris. In 1948 Picasso invited her to work with him and her art was believed to influence his Women in Algeria series. Her work was rooted in her childhood and her Algerian home. She created painting, ceramics and wall murals. Her work features flowing figures, animals and instruments.

Materials

Please gather all the materials before the class begins:

  • Oil pastels (see below)
  • Black cardstock or black construction paper. If you don't have black bring the darkest color you have.
  • Pencil with eraser

Please note: If you do not have oil pastels, you can use crayons, but crayons will not show well on dark construction paper. Therefore you should choose a lighter colored paper.
