Baya Mahieddine was an Algerian artist that influenced Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse and Andre Breton. At the age of 16 she had her first exhibition in Paris. In 1948 Picasso invited her to work with him and her art was believed to influence his Women in Algeria series. Her work was rooted in her childhood and her Algerian home. She created painting, ceramics and wall murals. Her work features flowing figures, animals and instruments.
