Lifelong Learning: Birds and Birding with Mass Audubon


Are you interested in birds? Birdwatching is one of the fastest growing hobbies in North America. Learn the basics of being a birder, from meeting the different bird families to getting acquainted with tools and resources used by birders to enjoy, observe, and learn about birds. Learn what makes birds unique in the animal kingdom, where and how to locate birds in urban, suburban, and rural settings, and get introduced to basic bird biology, behavior, and conservation. This class will help you get started or to dive deeper, give you opportunities to practice, and build your skills with locating, observing, and identifying, and supporting local birds.

Jan 4-Week 1: All About Birds – What is a bird? Overview of bird diversity, anatomy and vocabulary, how to look at birds.

Jan 11-Week 2: Habitats and Tools - Birding skills –using optics, guidebooks, apps, where & why to look.

Jan 18-Week 3: Bird behavior & biology – interpreting bird behaviors through the year.

Jan 25-Week 4: Attracting and observing birds, supporting birds in your landscapes.
